YWCA Southeast Wisconsin

Following a period of regional unrest and organizational upheaval, The YWCA of Southeast Wisconsin was at a low point. A new strategic plan presented the organization with a comprehensive set of resources to position it on the path to increased impact and sustainable success over the next five years.

Motivation

Following significant leadership changes and organizational turnover, YWCA Southeast Wisconsin needed to realign its mission, clarify public perception, and better respond to regional needs across Milwaukee and Racine. The organization sought a strategic plan that would unite internal and external stakeholders around a shared vision while addressing community challenges through an equity-centered lens.

Approach

In partnership with Global Policy Solutions, we led a multi-phase planning process that included stakeholder interviews, a regional landscape analysis, and a comprehensive communications audit. A participatory two-day strategic retreat convened board members, staff, and community partners at the Wingspread Retreat & Executive Conference Center to co-develop priorities and strategies. Findings were synthesized into a detailed five-year plan presented as a 123-page report and 20-page implementation slide deck.

Outcomes

  • A unified strategic vision anchored in community-driven goals and measurable outcomes

  • Clear communication tools to align staff and board messaging with public-facing mission

  • A phased roadmap for operational and programmatic growth through 2028

  • Increased stakeholder trust and engagement across internal and external audiences

Leadership & Impact

This process brought together cross-functional leaders in a moment of transition and turned complexity into clarity. By designing an inclusive, insight-rich planning experience and delivering tools that leaders could act on immediately, the strategic plan positioned YWCA Southeast Wisconsin to scale its mission and deepen its regional impact.
